Teaching Philosophy
· Piano study develops a lifelong appreciation and love of music
· Piano study improves life skills – builds confidence, concentration, dedication, diligence, perseverance
· Music benefits all individuals, regardless of age and ability
· All students have an innate ability to learn music
· Parental support is essential for young student’s progress
· Student will be able to read music, perform music, create music and listen intelligently to music
· Students will learn skills including sight reading, music theory, basic music history, technique, transposing, and performing
· Student will be pushed to achieve higher goals than they think they can reach
· Students will become independent learners
· Students will have the opportunity to share their love of music by performing a Christmas recital at a senior home
· Students will show off their hard work by performing in a year end recital
• Lessons will be 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or one hour in length
• Every student will have a piano, with 88 full size, weighted keys available for daily practice
• Lesson payment is due at the beginning of the month prior to the first lesson. Lesson payments are to be made by cash or check. Lessons will discontinue after two weeks of no payments
• There is a $20 fee for all returned checks
• If the student needs to cancel, notification is due as soon as possible. Every attempt will be made to schedule a makeup lesson. No refunds or make-ups will be given for no-shows or tardiness
• Any lesson I cancel will be made up or a credit will be given
• I will purchase materials and include the amount in the next month’s invoice
• Students will arrive at each lesson punctually and well-prepared with all materials needed
• The student is responsible for proper time management so that good quality practice can be completed
• During the year, several performance opportunities are made available for students
• If the student takes the summer off, there is no guarantee of the time slot in the fall
